Inside MRC’s 100,000m² Factory: Where Semiconductor-Grade Cleanroom Wipes Are Made

Last month we opened the doors of our Huizhou facility to a group of visiting procurement managers and industry journalists. It’s something we do from time to time — not because we enjoy the paperwork of coordinating factory tours, but because there’s no substitute for seeing the production floor in person. A spec sheet tells you what a wipe can do. The factory tells you why.

China’s semiconductor industry crossed ¥1.7 trillion in revenue last year, up 19% from 2024. That growth isn’t abstract for us. It shows up in our order books, in the specifications our customers bring us, and in the urgency around contamination control that gets more intense with every new node. When a customer running 7nm tells us a 0.1-micron particle just scrapped a wafer worth thousands of dollars, the conversation shifts from “which wipe is cheapest” to “which wipe actually works.”

The Numbers That Matter

The domestic market for high-end semiconductor cleanroom wipes hit ¥3.2–3.8 billion in 2025, growing at 22–25% annually. That tracks almost perfectly with wafer capacity expansion. More wafers, more wipes — and more pressure on the wipes to perform.

The data from the fab floor tells the story clearly: over 30% of chip failures come from surface contamination. Half of all yield losses are tied to cleaning that wasn’t good enough. As process nodes shrink from 28nm to 7nm and beyond, the margin for error disappears. A wipe that leaves fibers behind — fibers invisible to the naked eye — can cascade into millions of dollars in scrapped dies across a single production run.

For most wafer fabs, cleanroom wiping consumables now sit at 2.5–4% of total manufacturing consumable costs. That’s a real line item. But here’s what we keep telling our customers: the yield gain from switching to the right wipe almost always dwarfs the procurement savings from switching to a cheaper one. We’ve seen it over and over again.

What’s Different About How We Make These

MRC Group has been in the industrial purification business for over 30 years. WIPESTAR is our brand for overseas markets. The manufacturing happens here in Huizhou — not in a rented corner of someone else’s factory, but in a purpose-built facility we designed ourselves.

The facility runs across two factory buildings. Production happens in GMP-standard cleanrooms ranging from Class 10 to Class 10,000. Three medical-grade laboratories handle incoming material inspection, in-process monitoring, and finished product testing. Every batch gets sampled, documented, and archived — if a customer calls us six months later with a question about a specific lot, we can pull the records and the retained sample that same day.

One thing visitors always notice: all of our production equipment is custom-manufactured from 304 stainless steel. Most factories use painted steel — it’s cheaper upfront. But paint degrades over time, especially in a humid subtropical climate like Guangdong. Small chips and corrosion introduce particulate contamination into the production environment. We eliminated that risk entirely by going all-stainless from the beginning. It costs more. It’s worth more.

The Shop Floor

Walking into our cleanroom production area, the first thing people comment on is the sense of order. The lighting is uniform and bright. Cleanliness indicators and operating procedures are posted at every workstation. The air handling systems run continuously, maintaining positive pressure and particle counts well within spec. RO filtration feeds into EDI ultra-pure water treatment — no mineral residue, no chemical contamination in the final product.

Quality control runs through the entire process, not just at the end. Raw materials are tested for particle generation, extractable chemicals, and ionic contamination before they enter the production floor. During production, real-time particulate counters monitor the environment continuously. Finished products go through particle counts, fiber release analysis, solvent compatibility testing, and absorbency measurement. Anything that doesn’t meet spec doesn’t ship.

We supply cleanroom wipes to semiconductor fabs, electronics manufacturers, pharmaceutical plants, EV battery producers, and automotive paint shops — each with different requirements, each with zero tolerance for product inconsistency. The semiconductor side is the most demanding, but the principle is the same everywhere: the wipe either helps your yield or it hurts it. There’s no neutral.

Why This Matters for Your Production Line

If you’re evaluating cleanroom consumables suppliers, here’s what we’d suggest looking at — and what our customers tell us they value:

  • Own manufacturing, not a trading desk. Can your supplier show you the factory? Can they trace a specific lot back to its raw material batch? If the answer is “let me check with our factory,” you’re talking to a middleman. We own the factory.
  • Consistent quality across lots. Mixing products from multiple suppliers creates invisible inconsistencies. We’ve seen fabs drop their particle excursion rates by 40% simply by consolidating from three wipe vendors to one. The problem wasn’t any single product — it was the variation between them.
  • Technical support that understands your process. When something goes wrong on your line, you need someone who can look at the problem and tell you whether it’s a wipe issue or a process issue. Our team includes people with decades of experience on production floors, not just in sales offices.

Our full product range covers everything from universal wiping cloths for general factory maintenance to ultra-low-lint polyester wipes for ISO Class 1 semiconductor lithography bays. We also offer OEM and ODM services — custom sizes, materials, and packaging for distributors and large-scale end users.

What’s Next

Semiconductor expansion in China isn’t slowing down. Neither are the quality requirements. As fabs move to smaller nodes and tighter process windows, the consumables that were “good enough” three years ago may not be good enough today.

We’re continuing to invest in the facility — new production lines, expanded lab capacity, and additional cleanroom space. The goal isn’t just to keep up with demand. It’s to stay ahead of the specifications.

If you’d like to visit the factory yourself, or if you want to discuss your specific requirements, get in touch with our team. We’re always happy to open the doors.

Frequently Asked Questions About Semiconductor Cleanroom Wipes

Semiconductor cleanroom wipes are manufactured in Class 10 to Class 10,000 environments with ultra-low particle counts, minimal fiber release, and strict ionic contamination control. Regular industrial wipes are not produced under controlled cleanroom conditions and can introduce particles, fibers, or chemical residues that cause wafer defects and yield loss in semiconductor fabs. See our semiconductor wipe selection guide for details on material and class matching.

WIPESTAR manufactures cleanroom wipes in GMP-standard environments ranging from Class 10 to Class 10,000, depending on the product grade. Our Huizhou facility uses all-304-stainless-steel equipment, RO-to-EDI ultra-pure water systems, and three medical-grade laboratories for quality testing on every production batch. You can learn more about our manufacturing capabilities here.

Over 30% of chip failures trace back to surface contamination, and half of all yield losses are linked to inadequate cleaning. At advanced process nodes (7nm and below), a single 0.1-micron particle can destroy a die. Wipes that shed fibers or release extractable chemicals directly cause these defects, making wipe quality a critical factor in fab yield performance. Cleanroom wiping consumables typically represent 2.5–4% of total fab consumable costs, but the yield improvement from the right wipe far exceeds the cost difference.
